FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

WORLD'S FASTEST DRUMMER SETS A NEW WORLD RECORD!

Nashville, TN is definitely no stranger to WFD Speed Drumming World Records. In 2000 Johnny Rabb set the first ever WFD World Record by playing 1027 single strokes in 60 seconds. WFD (short for World’s Fastest Drummer) is a highly charged, interactive phenomenonand has spread feverishly around the world.  The contest consists of two categories, Battle of the Hands™ and Battle of the Feet™. As WFD has grown there has become a need for more regional grass roots events.  The first WFD Regional event was held in conjunction with Drum League at The Rutledge in downtown Nashville onJune 26, 2008.

The evening was hosted by WFD Champ Johnny Rabb and WFD founder Boo McAfee.  Although the event was intended to be regional, competitors traveled from as far away as Oklahoma and Canada. Music City heated up quickly as WFD Champion Matt ‘the kid’ Smith took center stage and broke the long standing ‘traditional grip’ World Record held by WFD Champ Mike ‘da man’ Mangini. Matt played an astounding 1132 single strokes in 60 seconds, breaking Mike Mangini’s previous record by 6 strokes.

The Battle of the Hands winner was Gary ‘the skip’ Skipper Nashville, TN, with a score of 896 Singles. Tyler Boydstan placed second (845) while Big Frank placed third (816). The Battle of the Feet winner was Kevin Bernardy from Edmond, Okalahoma with an awesome score of 901 singles, followed by Ronnie McDowell Jr. (786) and Canada’s Dan Laskowski (680).  Keeping with the tradition of the much larger WFD World Finals and other extreme sporting events, of course there had to be that huge, gaudy WFD Championship Belt.

“There were several wonderful stories that came out this first WFD Regional event. The Battle of the Hands winner, Gary Skipper has been competing at WFD since our very first WFD event, well over eight years ago. The Battle of the Feet winner Kevin Bernardy, who has competed for several years, drove all the way from Oklahoma. Special congrats go out to Kevin from our WFD family for he won on the third anniversary of his sobriety,” said WFD founder Boo McAfee.

World’s Fastest Drummer Competition is sponsored by PEARL, AXIS, PRO-MARK and REMO.
“We are extremely excited about all of the new ventures at WFD, especially the announcement of the game version of WFD called WFD, The Game and Extreme Music Game Challenges,” added McAfee.
